As we all know one of the most popular responses and the only gift many of us know how to give to our shepherds/pastors or generally any man of God who has blessed us mostly in Spiritual things is “OLORUN A SO AGBARA DI’OTUN” meaning GOD SHALL RENEW YOUR STRENGTH.
Compared to the rigor and labor many put in the service of shepherding, praying, labouring in the word and generally ministering the things of the spirit, we renumerate or honour men of God with stipends and peanuts.
While we choose to spend hundreds of thousands or millions as the case may be for a Music minister, who ministers in just some minutes or barely an hour.
The men of God who minister and receive just THANK YOU for those who are unfortunate enough to meet with those who aren’t appreciative or wise to do little they can. These ministers have wives and children to also cater for, bills to pay and we know fully well this is their work and they render such service duly.
No wonder, when you come with your problems for Spiritual works …they hit you hard without pity, knowing fully well the state of our ingratitude.
A shepherd once explained in a close pet talk after a church’s Spiritual blessing work using orange, sugar and candle. He explained the authority was there, even without the materials the people will be blessed. He said, the amount for the material I guess was exaggeratedly #500 and people bought for themselves and even their friends and family who weren’t available. He further explained saying, If he had prayed alone for blessings upon the people without materials and asked they should humbly contribute that #500 as an offering, the people Jesus died on the cross of Calvary would not.
We indeed are quick to judge clergy men when they are blessed in materials and tag them thieves. We argue and fight against tithes, debate offerings and make them conflicts.
Whereas, these are things we could have blessed them with from our freewill but we didn’t. Without being asked, we could choose to bless them in material things.
We attend the best school, while that of our man of God doesn’t match up. We eat good meals while the family of the pastor is yet to decide what to eat due to lack.
No wonder, everybody don wise up. Commercialization of Spiritual things is the order of the day. If you like shout, they ain’t even embarrassed anymore. You drive in good cars with fitted a/c, but the shepherd should trek barefooted.
The wickedness is even this, when we see one who God has prospered and is successful after years of labor and suffering. We then say they have used charms or maybe they commit fraud.

Lastly, candles and perfume aren’t only the materials for Thanksgiving, food materials like beans, rice, chicken, cow etc are not forbidden. If you are asked to light candles for Thanksgiving, be wise enough to have another material for your Thanksgiving. Sugar and salt that eventually end up at the door and everyone takes to eat isn’t thanksgiving, wise up and get other materials.
Leave God to renew their powers, you do the needful.
