The prophetic ministry is so beautiful. When you see the power at work, Oh God, who wouldn’t dare desire such gifts?. Imagine seeing deep things, speaking mysteries, foretelling and forthtelling etc. Do you know people practically enjoy the sights when people do shaky shaky, speaking in tongues and manifesting various prophetic gifts.
You see, this is lovely, but that is neither the “HOLY SPIRIT”(i.e that somebody is shaking or giving prophecies does not mean they have the holy spirit) nor its foremost duty. Let us not limit the powers and jurisdictions of the HOLY SPIRIT. While we know that we shall receive power when the HOLY SPIRIT comes upon us (ACT 1:8), we must understand that the primary duties of the HOLY SPIRIT are;
1) CONVICTION TO SALVATION: This must be continuously emphasised in the body of Christ as many have forgotten that it is the duty of the holy spirit to make sinners convicted, repent of their sins and be saved.
Many evangelists, teachers and preachers of the gospel are frustrated by the high rate of decadence and disobedience despite the insistent teaching of the word. We must make people know that only the HOLY SPIRIT can convict the heart of men and this is its primary duty, that people be SAVED.
Hence, when a man exhibits the trait of a new creature and lives a new life as a believer, this shows the HOLY SPIRIT at work
2) DIVINE ENABLEMENT: No man born of a woman can beat the flesh in totality. The influence and power of the flesh is so grave that man can only triumph through the help of the Holy Spirit.
The reason many find it very hard to leave a vice or rather a sin is because they depend on flesh to triumph over flesh. We must understand that it is through the help of the HOLY SPIRIT, we are given the enablement to subdue flesh and live in righteousness.
This clarity is needy as many believe the evidence of the HOLY SPIRIT is a life filled with POWER, doing SHAKY SHAKY (MANIFESTING AND FALLING UNDER ANOINTING) and all the PROPHETIC EXERCISES.
it is not so. I’d like to interest you that a life filled with the fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT is more of an evidence than “POWER”.
This is not to downplay POWER or its essence in the body, it is to make a balance and bring a clear understanding to many who have inordinate craze for power (even prophetic gifts) and the search for it.
